What is happening, everybody? Welcome back to the show. Just like you heard a few minutes ago, I'm Sebaster Rusk, your host. Hey, it's always great to be with each and every one of you. I always like to say, hey, listen, if you guys don't tune in, show doesn't happen. I could be talking a dead air right now, anyhow. Hey, this show is about tips, tricks, tools, ideas, news, my opinion about things that you don't know that you don't know about social media. So, hey, once again, welcome to the show. If you're listening uh at a later date, maybe it didn't listen this week as the episode dropped, uh, feel free to share this. I don't know if you're listening on SoundCloud, on iTunes, Google Play. You may be uh watching our recording on our YouTube channel of the archive of our Facebook Live. So uh in any event, either way, I don't care what road you took to get here, I'm just really glad you're here. This week I want to dive into the Oscars. Obviously, a lot happened at the Oscars. Um, a lot happened and didn't happen, I guess you could say. I want to chat about the brands that had some exposure through that and what my opinion is on where they could have improved that. And of course, Instagram just dropped a brand new gem of a feature called Instagram multi-image post. So I want to explain how all that works. My friends over at Social Media Examiner once again have done a dynamite job of breaking down what this new feature's all about. So head on over to socialmediaexaminer.com if you haven't already. My buddy Mike Steltzner and his team over there do a great job of keeping everyone in the know on what's going on about social media. So heck of a lot better job than I do. I mean, it's so difficult to keep up with, but I tell you, Mike's got a huge staff over there just cranking content out and really has become the go-to source when it comes to news and and and in the digital, specifically the social media space. They got an event coming up in San Diego, March 22nd to the 24th, social media marketing world. If you're a marketer, if you're an agency, if you are uh someone who runs marketing or social media for a business, you're an entrepreneur, you need to be here. There's well over, I think, I don't know, 3,000 attendees. It's at the convention center downtown San Diego. Um, I won't be there this year, but oh, I've got a lot of friends that are speaking there, uh attending there, and a great, great resource. More information at socialmediaexaminer.com. All right, let's dive down to it. Uh, first things first. In my opinion, Miss Universe actually became relevant. Like finally just became relevant. Uh, and it happened through the means of their social media team. How did that happen? Well, there was obviously a little bit of a mix-up, if you would, pertaining to the best picture of the year. Warren Beatty uh waddled out onto stage and uh man, seeing Warren Beatty with gray hair made me feel really, really old. Or maybe he just looks really old. I don't know. Either way, he uh came out and uh read that the best picture of the year was La La Lan. Incorrect. And the uh producer was waving in complete kind of organized chaos at the end of the show that La La Land was in fact not the winner, that Moonlight was in fact the winner, go Miami Films. And uh so they obviously sorted it out right on stage live. I mean again, when you get a live broadcast, there's no not much room for error. So as they sorted it out fairly quickly, uh, Miss Universe decided to join the conversation on Twitter and capitalize in the real-time marketing. This is so important and so vital. I'm gonna talk about this um a little bit more in depth with Rolex and how I feel they could have really uh capitalized a little bit more and stretched the dollar a little bit more on that TV ad that they had. But Miss Universe jumping in on a conversation on Twitter that was already happening, hashtag Oscars, and simply sent a tweet out that said, I'm sure I have this uh not queued up right here in front of me. That'd be too easy. I'd be organized if that was the case. I'm old. Somebody just chimed in on the live broadcast and said, uh, you're not you're Warren Beatty's not old, you're old. I appreciate all that love for my publicist. She always tells me the truth. So um here we go. Pulling up the image. Nothing like some dead space on the broadcast. So last night, uh it was Sunday night rather, as in the midst of organized chaos and Warren Beatty being utterly confused as to who in fact won best picture of the year, Miss Universe decided to chime in and send a tweet uh to uh the Oscars and say, have uh have your people call our people. We know what to do. Hashtag Oscars. And I thought that was brilliant. I think that uh people continued to reply and share that uh that tweet that went out because A, uh, it was really funny, and B, uh most people in the digital space were like, give your social media manager a raise, Miss Universe, because I think they may have actually made you relevant. I apologize. I'm just not a fan of beauty contests and whatnot. I'm a father to a 16-year-old daughter, and uh I do not condone beauty pageants. So when I say it's irrelevant, again, it's my show, and these are my opinions. You could disagree. However, they became very relevant in the digital landscape last night as they jumped in and joined the conversation in air quotes real time as the chaos was being sorted out live on national television to millions and millions of people. So well done, Miss Universe. Well done to the social media team. And if you're listening to this, give her a raise, give them a raise, give them a raise. I don't I don't know who it is, but uh great job on that. Now let's talk about the polar opposite of a brand not being able to capitalize or rather stretch their traditional ad dollar when a large event like the Oscars is taking place. Example, Rolex. They spent God knows how much on a television ad, and they had zero call to action on their social media channels. Zero. It was a great ad. And I think their mentality was hey, listen, we're Rolex, dude. If you don't have eight stacks to drop on a watch, you're not our target market. And I don't think that those people that are spending that kind of money on a watch are even on social media. So again, predicting the future, predicting the future, wrong, assuming, we all know where that gets us, and then just just just blatantly ignoring. Because here's what happened, and I hope Rolex is listening, and I say this with love. I'm a huge Rolex fan. I've got like 12 of them from China. I'm kidding, I'm kidding. But if you're a large brand like Rolex that's been around for a bazillion years, it's an established brand, it's a luxury brand. Everyone's either heard of them, a fan of them, a customer of them, or wants to be a customer of Rolex, right? Branding, brand identification, market saturation, um, market uh brand identification, check plus on all of those. However, comma, Rolex, you're spending a good chunk of change to get exposure prime time during a large award ceremony, i.e. the Oscars. Dude, dudettes, come on, man. What you need to do is make sure your message is clear on television, which it was. However, right at the end of your commercial, find out a way to be able to have some sort of call to action. Not a call to action like, hey, dude, click here and buy Rolex. No one's going to do that. But a call to action of, hey, listen, if you thought this ad was great, make sure, or head on over to Facebook. You know, watch the rest of the ad on our Facebook channel, or watch the rest of our ad on a Twitter video, or watch the rest of our television ad that cost us a bazillion dollars on our Instagram channel. What this does, Rolex, is allow you to take someone that's watching your commercial or more than likely fast forwarding through your commercial, but hey, maybe they want to watch it because it's a big event and there's they're they're they're specific commercials that are usually entertaining and a fit with with with with a fit within what you are watching. Sally had seashells by the seashore. Yeah, yeah. Come on, man. So Rolex dropping the ball uh on in on all counts, in my opinion. You're spending millions of dollars on an ad. You had zero call to action. Uh big shout out to my boy Jay Bear yesterday on his segment Jay Today. Uh talked about this, brought some attention to it, and uh sparked my interest, and I thought the same exact thing. I'm like, really? You spend that kind of money on a television ad and there's no call to action? What does that do when there is a social call to action? Listen, traditional media is probably never going to disappear, or at least for the next three to five years, it's not going to disappear. With that being said, it's even more vital to make sure all of your traditional medium marketing mediums collide with your social media landscape. Why? Because if you run a television ad and you have a call to action to one of your social channels and they go to your social channel and take you up on that call to action, they're going to follow you, like you, comment. What happens then? You've now got them in your social ecosystem. So instead of just talking to them during the four-hour Oscars on a Sunday evening while your television ad runs, you've actually got the ability to continue to talk to these people, to continue to entertain and provide value to these individuals. I'm just curious to find out the goal that had to be branding for Rolex to run an ad, a television ad during the Oscars with no call to action. I mean, surely they're not going to be able to track how many watches someone ran out and bought on Monday morning. Surely anyway. Hey, if you're just tuning in, this is the Seb Russ Show. My name is Sebastian Rusk. We're broadcasting live on Facebook right now, here from our office inside Business Miami. You're local to Miami looking for a co-working space, uh, maybe looking for an office, maybe you're looking for a few offices, a few desks, dedicated desks, shared space, co-working space. BusinessMiami.com is your spot. Check them out at businessmiami.com. I'd be more than happy to make an introduction. So hit me up. And if you have questions about the show, get my email address out constantly. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing, but questions, thoughts, ideas, concerns, help, whatever it may be, hit me up. Srusk at socialbuzztv.com. S-R-U-S-K at socialbuzztv.com. So the Oscars, quite entertaining to say the least. I watched it on uh D VR yesterday. I wanted to do uh I had predicted that uh Sir Justin Timberlake it would absolutely slay his Oscar performance, and he certainly did. Oddly enough, as I watched it on T VR last night, and I thought, gosh, I just want to watch the Justin part and be done with it. Okay, we got it. They got the wrong picture, the wrong envelope. Let's just watch Justin and be done with it. Oddly enough, the show was kicked off by Mr. Timberlake, and he absolutely just brought the house down, and the show had just started. So is there anything Justin Timberlake can't do? Like he's a tr like quadruple threat. Normally you got the triple threat, and he's got the quadruple threat, in my opinion. He can sing, dance, act, and be a good human being. So that's that's that. All right, let's head on over to socialmediaexaminer.com, dive into Instagram's new multi-image post uh this week in social media. What's new this week? Again, this article is brought to you by my friends at socialmediaexaminer.com. Join their list, you'll get their daily emails with updates and all kinds of stuff. And I may be redundant when you're listening to the show later on, but probably not. This stuff moves so fast, and there's so much information happening. People need to make sure that they have as much uh knowledge as you can about social media because this stuff's moving fast. So that's what the Seb Rush show is here to do. Help you better understand what you don't know that you don't know. Yes, no, this is not a political show. I welcome comments, but we're not gonna chit-chat about political stuff. My goodness. Let's chat about that giraffe giving birth on the live stream. Anyone watch that by the way? That's where we've arrived with live streaming, folks. Zus are now live streaming a giraffe having giving birth, rather, not having birth, giving birth. So a little too graphic for mine, even though Ammels, but I listen, I embrace whatever it takes to get you through the day. Instagram rolls out ability to add multiple photos and videos to one post. Instagram announced the users can now combine up to 10 photos, that's scary, and videos in one post and swipe through to see them all. A new icon on the Instagram app allows users to select multiple photos and videos, which they can then be reorganized, edited, or layered with a filter one by one or all at once. A row of blue dots at the bottom of these posts indicates to your followers that there's more to see. This update's available as part of Instagram's version 10.9 for iOS in the Apple App Store and for you Android freaks on Google Play. Uh yeah, so um being able to take multiple photos instead of having to post multiple photos, uh multiple posts, rather, you can take every post if you're on an event or whatever the case is. You can take video clips and pictures, put them all into one Instagram post and send it out. This is great for brands, especially local brands, showcasing products, uh services, um, local businesses. I would put together a stream of testimonials and to like check this out as testimonial Tuesday, and people can just swipe through three testimonials. They can be images of a testimonial from a customer with their picture or an actual video testimonial. There's all kinds of stuff you can do with these multi-image features on Instagram as a brand, as an individual. Take it easy, man. Take it easy with the posting. Um, and I say that with love, but some people overpost and it gets a little crazy. Remember, whether it's personal or it's business, as quick as people tune you in, they can tune you out. Okay? As quick as it is to click like, as quick as it is to click unfollow. Same thing. Identical. Don't ever forget that. There's a lot of noise online. Yeah, I speak about everything under the moon: business, personal, Jesus, politics, my raging a teenage daughter, being an entrepreneur, I talk about it all under the moon, no problem at all. However, I always like to bring it back to central, which is providing value, which is providing content. I do like to start a conversation. Unfortunately, some people are sensitive to certain subjects, and um, starting that conversation offends people. So if you're offended, well then you're offended. Hey, if you're just tuning in, this is the Seb Russ show on Social Buzz on Air. I'm your host, Sebastian Russ. We do this each and every week, broadcasting live from our studio here at Biz Ness, Miami, in the beautiful city of Coral Gables. Today we chatted about the Oscars, how Ms. Universe completely slayed the Twitter game and said, uh, have your people call my people. Lots of Steve Harvey jokes went on too. And then how I felt that Rolex, although had an incredible TV ad, had no call to action to their digital landscape, i.e., their social media channels. And don't ever, ever, ever do that. Even if you're a local business and you're running a radio ad, say what you need to say on the ad with a call to action that ties in to get somebody to go to your Facebook page or to go to your website and join your list. Because once they get to your website, hopefully your social media icons are so vivid and clear at the top of your website that people want to like you and follow you and subscribe to you, et cetera, et cetera. Remember, people do business with who they know, like, and trust. If you make it difficult for people to connect with you, then what's gonna happen is they're just not going to connect with you. Here's what's gonna happen, and it's already happening if you're a local business. If you think that social media is not relevant for your business or putting it at the forefront of all of your branding, your email signature, uh, envelopes that get sent out, postcards, reminders, sales, coupons, etc., if you're not making your social media channels of readily available to people that are pros uh prospectively doing business with you. So they're coming to your website, they're searching for what you do, they find your website, but they can't go to your Facebook page, they can't go to your Instagram account, they can't subscribe to your YouTube channel, they can't join your email list, and this frustrates them. Why? Because we are living in a digitally addicted world where we want things yesterday. We have no patience. We want it right now. We're willing to pay for the convenience of getting it right now, any day of the week. So what happens is they hit your website, they can't connect with you, they can't can dive into your digital uh digital landscape, i.e. your social media channels, and what happens? They leave and they go to the next person in line. And guess who that is? That would be your competition, Johnny. That's right. So make sure you got your game in check. Don't make it difficult for people to connect with you. Come on. It's only business, it's only a community. What you're doing by making sure people are connecting to your digital landscape is you're getting them into your ecosystem and providing so much value to them on a daily basis through whatever platform is there. That like my buddy Gary V says, it's it you almost guilt people into doing business with you. Why? Because you've provided them with so much value. When it's time for them to make a buying decision, it's a no-brainer. You're top of mind. Does that make sense? All right, good deal. Well, uh, that about wraps this week's episode of the Seb Rush show. We're on episode, let's see, I think it's 21. Yeah, go me. Start, stop, start, stop. We've done this about three times since 2013. But hey, third time's a charm. We're doing this each and every week. We're gonna get this, we're gonna scale this show to um uh to to be able to monetize it through sponsorship. So I've talked about brands throughout the show here, but those are just my friends and clients that I currently work with. But to give you an idea, that's what it'll look like when I'm having conversations about business or about monstergrass or about BI Mimey Dade and networking, etc. I'm simply talking about my daily life and what we're experiencing on a daily basis with our clients. Um, but as we continue to scale the show, it continues to grow in popularity. And um, you know, Ryan Secrets calls and says, hey, you know, we want to we want to buy the show and put it on iHeartRadio and all that fun stuff. You hear me, universe? Uh that's exactly what's gonna take place. So, anyhow, thanks to each and every one of you for tuning in. If you have any questions, thoughts, ideas, concerns, again, drop me an email, srusk at socialbuzztv.com. Well, we know what that sound means. Friends, we are out of time, but once again, thank you. Thanks for tuning in. Thanks for listening. I hope this show has helped you walk away with one or two things that you did not know when you hit play today. Hey, that rhymes, but that doesn't. Does anything rhyme with dozen? I don't think so. Hey. Uh, we're head, like I said, headed out to uh the West Coast tomorrow. Be out there until the 14th. So spend some significant time in Southern California. Excited for the upcoming traffic and conversion summit with my friends at digital marketer.com. That'll be in San Diego uh March 10th through the 12th. So make sure uh we're connected online. Follow me at Seb Rusk, just about everywhere online on Facebook. Ideas, questions, thoughts, concerns, hit me up. I am here to help. Well, I'm Sebastian Rusk signing off from our studio here at Business Miami. We'll talk to you next time.
